One of the best ways to get involved is to find a place to serve, within the congregation or in the community or in the world. You don’t even have to join the church first to get involved. All are welcome to participate. Raeford Presbyterian Church provides many opportunities to participate in serving our church families, in outreach activities in our local community and in service projects around the world. Our involvement is multi-faceted. If you have an interest, a talent, or a concern please join us as we offer direct services to individuals, as we volunteer in community ministries, or through sharing financial resources.
The needs are great-whether around the corner or around the world. Come join us! Get involved!

Dan and Elizabeth Turk
BP 623, SAF/FJKM
Antananarivo 101, Madagascar, Africa
Serving in partnership with the Church of Jesus Christ in Madagascar (FJKM), Dan and Elizabeth work to improve the lives of the Malagasy people. Elizabeth trains village health workers, helps communities develop safe drinking water sources and educates church leaders and youth about AIDS prevention. Dan has helped the FJKM develop an extensive fruit tree program that includes a fruit tree nursery and extension work with farmers. He also does environmental education, helping people live in harmony with God’s creation. Dan helps pastoral students grow fruits and vegetables. They will use these skills to help their community and families to achieve improved food security and nutrition. The Turks say that meeting needs in Christ’s name demonstrates how much God loves them.
Gordan and Dorothy Gartrell
Rua Joa’o A.da Fonseca, no 462 Centro, Gov.
Mangabeira, BA 44350-000 Brazil
First appointed to mission service with the PC(USA) in 1990, the Gartrells have served in five different regions of Brazil. Originally invited by the Independent Presbyterian Church of Brazil, Gordon and Dorothy are now serving at the invitation of the United Presbyterian Church of Brazil and have been assigned to a congregation in Mangabeira in the state of Bahia. The United Presbyterian Church has asked the PC(USA) to help expand their witness, and the Gartrells are part of the American church’s response. The Gartrells are a natural fit in Brazil. Gordon grew up in Brazil where his parents served as Presbyterian missionaries for 31 years. He understands the people and culture and has a passion to see Brazilians follow Christ as his disciples and extend the body of Christ in their communities. Dorothy was not born in Brazil but went there after college and served for two years as a volunteer teacher for missionary children. The Gartrells have been a ministry team in both the U.S. and Brazil since their marriage. They are the parents of three adult children: John, Elizabeth, and Daniel.

Children are also given an opportunity to participate in this ministry during Vacation Bible School.
